Insect monitoring for agricultural businesses
Objective data on what your product or approach does for insect life in the field.
Suppliers, advisory organisations, cooperatives and processors are increasingly asked for evidence: what does a seed mixture, a soil improver or an integrated crop approach really do for biodiversity? With the DIOPSIS insect camera you measure that on several fields at once, standardised and without your advisers having to go into the field.
Evidence instead of promises
A field-margin or cover-crop mixture that is "good for insects" sells better when you can show it. The DIOPSIS insect camera photographs day and night what lands on an illuminated screen; the image recognition model of Naturalis counts the insects and estimates the biomass. That gives you a time series per field that makes the difference between treated and untreated visible.
Trial design on several fields
Place cameras on fields with and without your product, or on fields of different customers, and measure simultaneously for a whole season. Because all cameras measure the same way, the results are comparable with each other. The same approach is used in studies by Wageningen University & Research, among others, on measures in agriculture; see the publications.
Data for customers, supply chain and certification
You use the results in product information, in conversations with growers and buyers, and in reporting for sustainability programmes and certification schemes. Photos and readings can be shared through the web portal, so your customer can also see what is happening on their field. That makes your adviser a partner with data instead of just a seller.
No extra fieldwork for your advisers
The camera runs on solar power, sends its data via 4G and is monitored remotely. Placement takes a few minutes; after that it runs the whole season without a visit. For a trial year you lease a few cameras; if you want to include monitoring in your offer structurally, we agree a multi-year lease.
